HIV & Health Services
Completed
PMTCT and Early Infant Diagnosis Program
About the Project
Protecting Future Generations
Every child deserves to be born HIV-free. This ViiV Healthcare-funded project focused on strengthening services that prevent HIV transmission from mother to child and ensure early diagnosis and treatment for infants.
Program Components:
- Enhanced PMTCT counseling for pregnant women living with HIV
- Adherence support throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Early infant diagnosis (EID) testing at critical timepoints
- Immediate linkage to pediatric ART for HIV-positive infants
- Family-centered care approach
Location:
Services were provided at both Limbe and Bangwe Health Centres, two of Blantyre's key public health facilities serving large populations.
Success Metrics:
The project significantly improved PMTCT uptake, ensured timely EID testing, and reduced mother-to-child transmission rates in the catchment areas. Mothers received comprehensive support from pregnancy through their child's early years.
