New ART Clinic Opens at Limbe Health Centre
Infrastructure for Better Healthcare
Long queues, insufficient space, and limited privacy – these were daily challenges at Limbe Health Centre before 2017. Patients often waited hours in the sun for HIV testing and treatment services, and the lack of dedicated ART facilities meant services were cramped and less than ideal.
Addressing the Gap
With generous support from Avert of the United Kingdom, Umunthu Foundation designed and constructed a purpose-built ART clinic at Limbe Health Centre. The facility was then handed over to the Ministry of Health through the Blantyre District Health Office.
The New Facility Includes:
- Dedicated ART registration room
- Private consultation spaces
- Drug dispensation room with secure storage
- Patient waiting shelter providing shade and comfort
- Kitchen facilities
- Modern flush toilets
- Adequate ventilation and lighting
Impact on Patient Care
The new facility has transformed the patient experience:
- Reduced waiting times: Efficient layout means faster service
- Improved privacy: Separate rooms for confidential consultations
- Better organization: Clear patient flow from registration to dispensation
- Dignified care: Comfortable, clean environment respects patient dignity
This is complementary healthcare at its best – Umunthu Foundation working alongside government services to ensure communities have access to quality HIV care in facilities that honor their dignity and promote health.
