From Diagnosis to Hope: Grace's Journey
When I tested positive, I thought my life was over. But Umunthu Foundation gave me hope, free treatment, and a community that understands. Five years later, I am healthy, my viral load is suppressed, and I am living proof that HIV is not a death sentence.
A Life Transformed
When Grace tested positive for HIV five years ago, she felt her world had ended. She was afraid, stigmatized, and did not know where to turn. The diagnosis came at a time when she was already struggling financially, and the thought of expensive treatment seemed impossible.
Finding Umunthu Foundation
A friend told her about Umunthu Foundation's free HIV testing and treatment services at their Bangwe-Chikunda clinic. With nothing to lose, Grace walked into the clinic expecting judgment but found compassion instead.
The counselors at Umunthu Foundation took time to explain what HIV meant, how treatment works, and most importantly, that she could live a long, healthy life. Grace was immediately enrolled in antiretroviral therapy (ART) at no cost. The clinic provided not just medication, but ongoing counseling, nutritional advice, and a supportive community.
Five Years Later
Today, Grace is healthy and thriving. Her viral load is undetectable, meaning she cannot transmit HIV to others. She has become a peer counselor at the clinic, helping newly diagnosed patients navigate their own journeys. Grace runs a small business, is raising her two children with confidence, and actively participates in community events.
"The stigma tried to kill me before HIV ever could," Grace reflects. "But Umunthu Foundation gave me back my dignity, my health, and my future. I am living proof that HIV is not a death sentence."
Her Message to Others
Grace encourages everyone to get tested and reminds people living with HIV that free, quality treatment is available. "Do not let fear or stigma keep you from getting help. Umunthu Foundation will treat you with respect and give you the care you need to live."
