The Community Resource Centre gave me more than computer skills – it gave me hope and a path forward when I felt stuck. The free internet access helped me find a job. Now I want to help others find their path too.

From Unemployment to Opportunity

Chisomo had just completed her secondary school education but lacked the resources to continue to university or find employment. Without a computer at home and limited internet access, applying for jobs seemed impossible.

Discovering the Resource Centre

When Chisomo heard about the Community Resource Centre at Umunthu Foundation headquarters, she decided to visit. What she found was more than just a library – it was a gateway to opportunity.

The Resource Centre provided free access to computers, internet, and a vast collection of books. More importantly, it offered a safe, quiet space to learn and a supportive staff willing to help.

Teaching Herself New Skills

Every day, Chisomo spent hours at the Resource Centre. She used the internet to learn computer skills through free online tutorials. She practiced typing, learned Microsoft Office applications, and studied how to create professional CVs and cover letters.

The staff helped her understand how to search for jobs online and prepare for interviews. She used the Resource Centre's books to improve her English and learn about professional communication.

Landing Her First Job

After months of dedication, Chisomo applied for an administrative position at a local organization. Her new computer skills and polished CV impressed the hiring manager. She got the job.

"The Resource Centre gave me more than computer skills – it gave me hope and a path forward when I felt stuck," Chisomo says. "The free internet access helped me find opportunities I never would have known about otherwise."

Giving Back

Now employed and financially stable, Chisomo volunteers at the Resource Centre on weekends. She helps other young job seekers navigate online applications, build their CVs, and develop computer skills.

"I remember how lost I felt," she says. "Now I want to help others find their path too. The Resource Centre changed my life, and I want to be part of changing other lives."

The Ripple Effect

Chisomo has helped over 30 young people improve their CVs and apply for jobs online. Several have found employment thanks to her guidance. This is the power of community resources – one person's success creates a ripple effect that lifts others.
